Need a little help

by Jason Ward

Some things don’t make sense.

Did you see the ending to Black Swan?  Go watch it again (on DVD and Blu-Ray this week) and answer this question: How did she do all that dancing with her unique injury?

Doesn’t make sense, does it?

In R’lyeh, where dead Cthulu waits dreaming, the angles of the place are said to be “wrong”.  Geometrically, they don’t make sense.  Yet still they are.

And right above the weight room floor at my gym, there’s a disco ball.

I like to think of myself as a smart guy and can figure out a lot of answers for myself.

This one, I just don’t get.

Arnold didn’t need a disco ball at Gold’s Gym in Venice.  Why do we?

I’m open to theories.

A Fresh Start

by Jason Ward

Change comes quickly.  Anyone paying attention to this modern life will tell you so, and it’s a lesson I learned again recently.

After seven years at Toronto’s Classic Rock Q107, I got let go a couple of weeks back.  A realignment of corporate operations was the official language.

Simply put, I got downsized out of a job.

No matter how much you feel prepared for a moment like that, it still takes you by surprise.  At first, it’s liberating.  Suddenly those burdens at work you dislike so much are no longer yours to endure.  You’re free.

Then comes the sinking reality of total uncertainty.  After seven years doing such a job, knowing the market is shrinking with each passing day, is there even a chance of getting another gig, especially one that won’t put you back under the poverty line?  Will you be relegated to doing the jobs you thought you’d left behind just to make ends meet?   What’s the next step and can you still live up to the responsibilities to you and yours?

Truthfully, I don’t have all the answers.

What I do know is that I’m not bitter or angry.  I’ve had the opportunity to work with some incredible people over the last seven years.  While no longer a part of that team, I’ve been humbled by the outpouring of support from friends, former co-workers and especially fans that loved my Q107 shows and blogs and now wonder where I’ve gone.

To all of you, I give my sincerest thanks.

If anything, I’m excited.  I’m not entirely sure how the future is going to play out in the months to come, but I promise that bigger and better things are on the way.  I’ve been working on a few personal projects for some time and can’t wait to get them to you in the days, weeks and years to come.

I’m still here.

I look forward to seeing you back here, too.
