Another year older, a new one almost begun…

by Jason Ward

Wow.  What a year.

To say this one’s been a challenge is putting it lightly.

You may have noticed that there have been only a few updates on the site of late, primarily my work from Biff Bam Pop!  There are a few reasons for that.

Back in October, I took a day job in order to make ends meet.  The economy being what it is, I’ve had to make sure to keep a roof over my head first and foremost.  As well, I’ve been saving money to invest in some infrastructure to help build my personal business.  The job has taken up a lot of time and has forced me to make some significant lifestyle changes, and that’s resulted in a lot less time for my creative pursuits.

I’m currently at a crossroads in my career.  I don’t know if working in radio broadcasting will ever be part of my future again.  As much as I’d love to continue with it, the radio industry continues to change at a dramatic pace.  Both the number of jobs available and the quality of pay are dwindling. Maybe it’s because I’m over the age of 30, but fighting for wages under $30,000 a year just doesn’t hold the appeal it used to.

My first love has always been the written word.  Short stories, novels, movie scripts, journalism – all of it.  I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few months working on a number of projects and I’m ready to take them to the next level.  I’ve just got to find a way to do it while also keeping said roof over said noggin.

Because I need some time to think and figure out the next step, I’m going to take the rest of December off.  I’ll be spending time with some friends and loved ones to get a little perspective, as well as talking to some potential business partners about future endeavors.

To put it simply, I’m not sure what’s next.

What I do know is that whatever may come, it’ll be something new and different.

Let me just take the time to thank you for coming to visit my little website.  Your feedback and out-of-the-blue notes just to say hi are always appreciated.

Oh, and in case I don’t get to see or speak to you personally…

  • I’m a bit late to this post – hope the “spending time with some friends and loved ones” has been both good for the soul and good for perspective. I think you’re a great writer – words and ideas flow easily in your pieces – so it’s good to hear you pursuing that aspect of your varied interests.

I’m looking forward to reading whatever comes next: a short story, a novel, a graphic novel, an interview, a film script or an observation-based article chock full of hefty and funny “Wardisms”!

All the best over the holiday season and see you in 2012!
